Elisabeth, a biology teacher and tutor, smiles over a cup of coffee

I'm eager to help your child gain a better grasp of my favorite subject: biology.

Hi there, I’m Elisabeth

About Me

I believe that my love of and my enthusiasm for my subject have enabled me to be an effective teacher. In addition to being truly awed by the intricacies of nature and how things work, I love children (having four of my own) and love all things connected to biology which makes for a great combination as a teacher! Therefore, I want students to be successful and to learn to love biology too.

More importantly, what makes me a good teacher and tutor is that - as a student - I struggled with academic success and had to learn how to learn. For many who become teachers, school has always been easy and it is a natural fit to become a teacher. For me, my struggles as a student enable me to find ways to help others for whom an initial understanding may not come easily. I know firsthand what it is like to sit in a class and feel like I do not know what is happening and I strive to have that never be an experience for a child I am teaching, whether in the classroom or while tutoring. Children often equate academic success with “being smart”. I am proof that you can be very intelligent and still struggle with academics.

My goal as a teacher and a tutor is to help students find a way to integrate the information so that it makes sense which will enable them to retrieve the information and apply it as necessary on assessments in a way that demonstrates their understanding.

I have taught at a small private school in Westchester Country for the last 27 years and have been teaching biology for 30 years. I received my MS in Natural Science with a concentration in Biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2000. Over the years I have taught a multitude of courses from Honors Biology to AP Biology along with a variety of seminars such as Cognitive Neuroscience, Molecular Genetics, Molecular Biology, and Anatomy and Physiology.

I would be honored to help your child find a way to success in biology too!
